Welcome
I am an Assistant Professor of Philosophy, and Assistant Director of Graduate Education, at the University of Rochester.
My research focuses on the political philosophy of science, health and technology. Here is a selection of the questions I'm thinking about at the moment:
- How should we measure racial or gender bias in the context of decisions made by machine-learning algorithms?
- How should we distribute the risks and benefits of dual-use science (e.g. gain of function experiments, geo-engineering, etc.)?
- How do attitudes toward the goals of science change willingness to comply with research ethics regulations?
- What role does the security of important goods (like healthcare, income, etc.) play in people's ability to form and pursue life plans?
A summary of my past and present research can be found here.
